STATEMENT FROM COLIN VAN OSTERN ON NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION OPIOID AND HEROIN EPIDEMIC
CONCORD, N.H. — Today, Democratic nominee for Governor Colin Van Ostern issued the following statement to commemorate the start of national Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week:
“As we mark the beginning of national Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week, we must remember that this crisis remains the most urgent threat to our quality of life here in New Hampshire,” said Colin Van Ostern, Democratic nominee for Governor. “We must attack the opioid and heroin problem — not the people with the problem — and provide our substance abuse treatment centers, mental health professionals, and law enforcement with the support they need.”
On the Executive Council Colin voted to continue New Hampshire’s bipartisan Health Protection Plan, which has provided care and treatment to thousands across the state struggling with substance use disorders. As Governor, Colin will focus on a four-part strategy to address the heroin and opioid crisis that includes boosting resources to combat substance use disorders, expanding prevention measures, removing barriers to treatment, and supporting recovery programs. Last week, Colin met with law enforcement, substance use disorder experts, recovery experts, and those in recovery to discuss his plan to address the opioid and heroin epidemic.
