VAN OSTERN DISCUSSED WOMEN’S HEALTH ISSUES WITH ADVOCATES AND EXPERTS ON THE SEACOAST
Van Ostern Talked With Seacoast Women’s Health Experts About The Need To Protect Planned Parenthood Funding, Permanently Expand Medicaid, And Take Politics Out Of Health Care Decisions
GREENLAND, N.H. — Today, Democratic nominee for Governor Colin Van Ostern held a discussion on women’s health issues with advocates and experts, highlighting his record leading the fight to restore funding for Planned Parenthood and always protecting a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions, regardless of the politics of the moment. Chris Sununu has repeatedly used issues of women’s health as a political football and just a few weeks ago called for a new investigation into the activities of Planned Parenthood.
“From expanding Medicaid to nearly 50,000 citizens to restoring funding for birth control and cancer screenings, I’m proud to have played a leadership role in the successful work of expanding and protecting access to health care in our state,” said Colin Van Ostern, Democratic nominee for Governor. “The thousands of New Hampshire women and families whose access to health care was restricted last year deserve a governor who is with them 100% of the time. As Governor, I’ll won’t let politics stop Planned Parenthood funding again, and I’ll work with legislators to make the successful, bipartisan New Hampshire Health Protection Plan permanent.”
“Colin Van Ostern is the only candidate running for Governor that New Hampshire women can trust to protect their reproductive rights and access to healthcare 100 percent of the time, not just when it’s politically expedient,” said Senator Martha Fuller-Clark. “Chris Sununu’s record speaks for itself: he voted to deny funds for cancer screenings, annual exams, called women’s health advocates ‘bullies’ and said Planned Parenthood should be investigated.”
In 2015, Chris Sununu was the deciding vote on the Executive Council to defund Planned Parenthood, leading to a reduction of critical services for women, who rely on Planned Parenthood for cancer screenings, mammograms and other health services at clinics throughout New Hampshire. And just a few weeks ago in the midst of the Republican primary for Governor, Sununu called for a new investigation into Planned Parenthood.
Van Ostern was endorsed by Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund for his work to restore funding for Planned Parenthood on the Executive Council and was named New Hampshire’s “Champion for Choice” in 2015 by NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire.
